Invitation-only sales sites in Europe and in US

Shop.org aks women about fashion and the result is that they are looking for a little luxury and especially when the item has been chosen for them. But luxury goes with designers such as Elie Tahari, Alexander McQueen and Manolo Blahnik. With the actual crisis, how women can afford this ?

In Europe the concept isn’t new, it’s actually pretty much important all over Europe with web sites such as Vente-privee in France, Privalia in Spain and Brand4friends in Germany.

The concept was launched in 2001 by French vente-privee.com, the site allows consumers to find attractive sales on well known brands. Prices are discounted and the sell occurs during a defined period (from 1 day to more). All you need to participate is to get an invitation. One of your friends can send you one by e-mail. You actually need to be sponsored to join the community.

In 2008 vente-privee.com, who is also in Spain and Germany made $500 millions euros. The site is now trying to reach Italy, UK, Austria and Belgium. They are 4,6 millions to be members on the site.
Brands4friends in Germany has 1,2 millions members and is the leader of invitation-only sales in the country.

Privalia in Spain and the Spain market are actually very important for Invitation-only sales:

US has launched on the same consept: Gilt.com since November 2007.  Same idea same concept than vente-privee.com. You must be invited to enter on the website.

At ideeli’s you can get the special “1st row” upgrade option; for a fee, members gain access to private sales and earlier start times for everything else. This is a little different from the previous sites and could be interesting to get what you want when you want !
Another invitation-only sales site, Rue La La, launched less than a year ago, already has a membership in the hundreds of thousands accessing its daily sales.

For once, US is taking some inovations from Europe and Invitation-only sales sites are really well working down there and actually seem to thrive over US.
